A long time friend, and former co-worker has risen to the ranks as President of Universal Music Group Nashville. We could not be happier for her. We are not aware of any other female ever breaking the glass ceiling in the Country Music Record Industry to the level of President of a Record Label Group. It is a well deserved accomplishment even if she is not the first. She is one of the most driven, focused individuals that I know. She is passionate about her artists and their music and has lead some of the greatest break through's in country music. She is a role model for myself (Suzette) as a working mom, but also for many others. Last night, she was awarded the 2014 Women in Music City Award by the Nashville Business Journal.
More About Cindy Mabe: She has overseen marketing, digital marketing, media marketing, creative services, production and international strategies for Capitol Records Nashville since 2007 before continuing and expanding her role after the October 2012 merger of Universal Music Group Nashville and Capitol Nashville. Recently Mabe was named President and now along with Chairman and CEO Mike Dungan oversees all departments for Universal Music Group Nashville. UMG Nashville is comprised of Capitol Records Nashville, EMI Records Nashville, MCA Nashville and Mercury Nashville with a roster of more than 30 artists including Alan Jackson, Darius Rucker, Dierks Bentley, Eric Church, George Strait, Josh Turner, Keith Urban, Lady Antebellum, Little Big Town, Luke Bryan, Kacey Musgraves and Vince Gill.
Mabe has been instrumental in the development of superstar Luke Bryan who launched his debut album in August of 2007 and has gone on to sell nearly 6.2 million albums and 23.1 million digital tracks while celebrating nine No. 1 singles and being named the Academy of Country Music’s 2013 Entertainer of the Year. The first post-merger release for Universal Music Group Nashville was the February 2013 release of Gary Allan’s Set You Free. Mabe’s leadership and vision for Allan’s ninth studio album made it the most successful launch of his 17 year career. George Strait celebrated his 60th No. 1 single in 2013 as well as two back-to-back Entertainer of the Year awards from both the Country Music Association in 2013 and the Academy of Country Music in 2014.
While at Capitol Records Nashville, Mabe was instrumental in reinvigorated the label’s presence within the industry and the Nashville community by bringing back the camaraderie and Music Row celebrations of years past with the “Capitol Records Street Party” in 2007. The free music event showcased the label’s talented roster with participants including Alan Jackson, Darius Rucker, Dierks Bentley, Eric Church, Keith Urban, Lady Antebellum and Luke Bryan. Over the year’s multiple charities including The Vanderbilt Children's Hospital and the Pencil Foundation have benefitted from the event and each year the attendance has multiplied with Street Party 5 in 2012 taking over downtown Nashville with a crowd of over 30,000 people.
Prior to joining Capitol Records Nashville, Mabe oversaw the marketing and day-to-day strategic planning for Arista Records Nashville, a division of Sony Entertainment, and worked with a roster of artists including Alan Jackson, Brad Paisley, Brooks & Dunn and Carrie Underwood.
A North Carolina native and Belmont University graduate, Mabe serves on the Board of Directors for the Pencil Foundation, a premier organization linking community resources of both volunteers and materials with Metro Nashville Public Schools.
